Volkswagen’s Jetta began life as a three box version of Volkswagen’s successful Golf, sold as the Rabbit in America. Available in both coupe, and four door sedan versions, and was a reasonable seller, but I believe the model did not really take off in sales until the second gen (MKII), when it debuted in 1985. “Volkswagen does it…………..again!”
