Sold as a 3-door hatchback only, the 1983 Capri received a new grille, new bubble-back backlight glass, and dark tail light lenses. It’s 2.3 L 4-cylinder was the base engine, with either 4 or 5 speed manual transmissions and an automatic optional. The 3.8 liter V6 with automatic only was optional, along with the 5-liter V8, which took the 4 speed manual only until the new 5 speed overdrive was ready for installation later fall of 1983.
RS suspension with V8 engine, interiors and instruments received improvements, and Drag coefficient was lowered to 0.38 with new rear glass.All tires increased one size in 83, and Recaro style bucket sport seats were optional
