1983 Pontiac Manufacturer Promo – The Excitment Pontiacs!

Posted on 18. Jul, 2012 by in Pontiac, Promos

General Motors excitement division, surely boosted that claim with such statements as “fun to drive”, “distinctive”, and “world class”. Take a look at this rare footage, of the furor that was Pontiac for 1983. From the baby J2000 and Sunbird (when it was only called that sans roof!), the Phoenix SJ, Pontiacs reply to its corporate cousin X-11. When was the last time you saw a Phoenix of this era, let alone a manual SJ model?

The 6000 STE, which stood for “Special Touring Edition” which demanded the most advanced Pontiac to date, and of course the legendary Firebird, and Firebird Trans Am, that apparently wins races (ironically) without moving! Take those accolades as you will, this video is simply a time capsule, capturing a time less than epic for the domestic auto industry!

I have a 6000 STE with that original accessory pack, with everything in it. I’ll agree that it is a worthy challenger for the European cars of the time, although it wasn’t quite as sophisticated with its carburetor.

The background music sounds like the music they’d play during nightclub scenes in the Buck Rogers TV series.
