1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo Test Drive

Dating from the original Esprit of 1975, Ital Designs ‘cheiselled’ styling still looked crisp and modern in 1981.  Spoilers, NACA ducts in the bonnet and chunky side skirting differentiated it from the conventionally aspirated Esprit S3.

The HC Turbo Esprit of 1986 boasted more torque and power form its slightly higher compression engine for improved mid and upper range punch.  Its interior now had more useful adjustable backrests for the seats and the exterior was mildly reworked with a new front spoiler and side decals.  The restyled X180 Esprit replaced the HC in 1988.
