1987 Chevrolet Sprint Turbo Test Drive
General Motors first foray into the ultra subcompact segment would arrive in 1984. Known as the Chevy Sprint, a rebadged Suzuki Swift, the little car was sold worldwide under many other monikers including Holden and Pontiac. When the Turbo arrived in 1986, it brought special graphics, different seats, wheel covers, and the car itself was only available in white or red. 70 horsepower doesn’t sound like a lot, but when coupled to a car of such diminutive dimensions, it actually makes for a sprightly outcome. Lol @ 17.2 in the quarter as being hair raising. We have definitely come a long way as my 2011 Forte Koup SX which is also “sporty” does it at high 15s. This also comes with the fact that the sprint probably weighed around 2000 pounds.
Totally agree! I bet the fact the car is so light and has minimal safety nets is what creates its ‘Hair rasing’ nature!

I always thought they should have turbo charged the Geo Metro Convertible
I really want one of these things. Impossible to find. The Metro I had did 0-60 in 17 seconds.
I think it’s insane that this thing pulls off 0-60 in the 8s and 9s with just 70 horsepower and the Metro could only manage 17 with 55 HP
WIth roughly 40 percent more power than the standard engine and even shorter gearing, it’s not too surprising that it could pull those numbers. The 17 second 0-60 must have been in the 3 speed automatic Metro, the 5 speed was about 13.8 or something.
