1988 Chevrolet Cheyenne Pickup Test Drive

Trucks. Ford vs Chevy. One of the oldest rivalry’s in the business. For my family it was always Chevrolet. My father bought his first new Chevy truck in 1973, which was later replaced by a Cheyenne similar to the one in the video in 1989. This generation known as the GMT400, was the biggest transformation in truck design to date, with its aero design. There were some oddities however, primarily with the interior, such as the comprehensive if strange gauge cluster design, and the choice to have satellite tape deck mounted in the center of the dash, separate from the head unit. Despite those idiosyncrasies, i always found the design and materials used in the first interior, far superior to the redesign that they provided in the mid 1990’s. The ad campaign when released showed Chevy’s carrying Fords, up rocky hills, while being pulled by another Chevrolet Pickup. The Heartbeat of America? Like a rock!

I love the Chevrolet Cheyenne (now Silverado)/GMC Sierra pickups better than the Ford!! Plus, some of my friends have Chevrolet Silverados & GMC Sierras! My only complaint about the Cheyenne/Silverado/Sierra is the lack of decent rear seat room and comfort in the extended cab versions.
