1988: Getting to know GEO

Before the Internet, speculation was left to few outlets, primarily in the printed form! So it’s nice to watch it as it once played on TV, the questions asked were valid. GEO was an interesting testbed. Harnessing the bulk of GM’s captive imports and rebadging them under a name that embodied the way the auto industry was headed, global. And while it was relatively short lived, and meager selling, the brand definitely left it’s mark on the market. Even if it was sold in one market.

Actually the first few years of Geo the sales were wonderful, when the storm bit the dust at the end of 1993 the sales started slowly falling, when the three remaining cars were rebadged Chevrolet in 1998 the axe dropped and their sales fell off the map. Each one was discontinued one after the other Metro 2001, Prizm 2002, and Tracker in 2004. Geo is by far my all time favorite brand of cars but it does confuse me that GM would create this sub brand knowing Saturn was right around the corner I mean didnt anyone realize that Geo would be taking sales from their billion dollar Saturn line? Ive always thought that if GM would have replaced the Storm with the suzuki concept car in 1995 the brand would have remained strong.
