1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am 20th Anniversary Test Drive

The 20th anniversary Pontiac Firebird Trans am was the fastest production F-body to date, and for quite some time there after. Using the famous Buick turbo 3.8 that powered Regals from 1978 through 1987, ending its Buick career in the highly admired GNX, eventually being discontinued when GM transformed its midsized entry from a rear driver to a ubiquitous W body front wheel drive architecture. Known for being quicker in both applications, than the Chevrolet Corvette of the era, the 231ci V6 was placed into only 1,555 Trans Ams, and was chosen to pace the 1989 Indianapolis 500.
