1989: SL2 Snagged

Near the end of 1989, GM and Saturn division sources confirmed the car shown here was the mildly disguised subcompact Saturn sedan.  The exterior details were quite close to how the production car would debut in the fall of 1990.

In striking contrast to the cobbled together mule GM rolled out when Saturn first went into orbit, this sedan was apparently longer and wider.  Additionally, the small front and rear overhangs indicated Saturn engineers went for maximum ride qualities by utilizing a longer wheelbase. The headlamps remained exposed in the development car, but are recessed into the nose in Buick Skyhawk fashion.  Light camouflage disguised the A and C pillars

The good old Saturn S Series. That car had a long run. It served its purpose. Where do you find these things?
