Even competing in Motor Trends 1991 Import Car of the Year contention, with many judges feeling it had a shot at rattling the Honda Civics cage, with its superior cornering and overall handling characteristics. The Exterior demonstrated courageous brake away styling, in reference to the typical Japanese bland of the era.
