1992: Baby Blazer Hatches New Look

General Motors all but confirmed the 2nd S-Series baby Blazer line would include a unique two-door “fast back” model for the first time.  coupled with the expected continued availability of GM’s 200-horsepower 4.3 Liter V6, the new Blazer would look like a sporty alternative, to the standard sport utilities.  Originally intended as a 1993 model, reports indicated “poor economic conditions” was a motivator to delaying the vehicle.
Sources within the program described the “hatchback” body style as a Chevrolet effort to “get away from what everybody else is doing.” The sloped rear quarters of this new style was to include lift off portions, to enhance its sportiness and utility.
