1992: Pontiac’s Buddy?

Pontiac was long interested in a small sporty truck like vehicle.  The company showed its Salsa concept as something that could have been produced. But with development funds limited, the Salsa lacked volume potential to have justified such an investment.  However, GM was taking on a host of Isuzu vehicles since it owned 40 percent of the company, at the time. The Amigo based Pontiac was aimed at continuing Pontiac’s efforts to bring in younger buyers, the only ones who may be able to tolerate the impractical but playful attitude of this vehicle. Rumor was, that this was to be named the ‘Sunfire’, probably a better use of that label.
