The Celica coupe and convertible lost their exuberantly round lines, in the extensive revamping process undertaken for the 1994 model year. As a result they became sturdier and more refines, but the sticker price also shot up. They had to prove their worth on the basis of styling, quality and safety, rather than performance. An unusual task for a sports coupe and convertible. You could have almost said the Celica had classic lines if it weren’t for the quartet of headlights that shine through its vaguely amphibian nose. The light are reminiscent of the Acura Integra, or even the Lexus SC400 coupe, but what’s most important about them is that they were more powerful and their beams were more precise than the previous model. American buyers could choose the convertible version, but Canadians were limited to the liftback.
