The first attempt made by Chrysler at exceeding 80 mpg was designated the Intrepid ESX. The ESX I, although a series hybrid, used what might be considered “conventional technology”. Chrysler invested an estimated US$3 million into the project,[1] which used exotic materials in its construction: the model was priced at nearly $90,000; $70,000 more than the base Intrepid of the comparable year. The ESX was designed by Bob Boniface, who went on the design the 1998 production Dodge Intrepid.

The Chrysler LHX concept car explores the future design direction of cab-forward architecture for the next
generation of Chrysler full-size luxury cars. The interior space has been expanded by placing the wheels further to the corners, stretching the cab. The LHX has an aggressive raked profile that is combined with an interior that uses graceful, simple forms and a sophisticated use of materials.
