1996 Suzuki Sidekick Sport Test Drive
One of the established players in the suddenly busy mini-ute market, the Suzuki Sidekick faced new competition from Toyota’s RAV4 in 1996. The Sidekick countered with lower pricing, combined with carefully chosen updates. A new instrument panel with improved ergonomics and dual airbags graced all ’96 Sidekick models. In addition to the two wheel drive JS and four wheel drive JX, the new Sport took its place at the top of the lineup. Available only as a four-door with 4WD, the Sport had a three inch wider track, 16-inch wheels, larger tires, and special body cladding.
