1999 Oldsmobile Alero Sedan Test Drive
Joining the Oldsmobile line as the replacement for the dearly departed Achieva, the new Alero coupe and sedan targeted import oriented buyers in cars as divergent as the Eclipse, Sebring, Accord, Altima, and Contour. Based on the same platform as the Chevrolet Malibu, the new Alero advanced the state of the art with an exceptionally rigid chassis structure, competitive performance, & a high level of standard content. Each of the two body styles were available in 3 trim levels. The base level power plant was a 2.4 liter 150 horsepower DOHC in-line four. The top power plant offering what is smooth and assured 3.4 liter 170 horsepower v6 coupled to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
