2002 Hyundai Sante Fe Test Drive
Like many of the current breed of suburbanite SUV’s, Hyundai’s Santa Fe was based on an extensively modified mid-size car platform. It came in either FWD or with Hyundai’s fulltime 4WD, which used a unique dual drive front differential with planetary gears and viscous coupling to deliver 60 percent of the power to the front wheels and 40 percent to the rears. Available engines were a 2.4L four-cylinder with either a manual or automatic, and an optional 2.7L V6 with automatic. A major upgrade for the 2002 model year was the addition of four wheel disc brakes as standard on all models and the availability of an improved stereo system.
