2003 Chevrolet Corvette Anniversary Test Drive
The 2003 Chevrolet Corvette not only paced the 2003 Indy 500, but it celebrated its 50th anniversary. The ruby-red 350-hp pacer was mechanically identical to the anniversary Special Edition coupe available at Chevy stores summer 2003. Anniversary models sported special exterior badging, embroidered badges on the seats and floor-mats, plus padded door armrests and grips. Power-train choices were unchanged.
The hardware related news for the 03′ Corvette was optional Magnetic Selective Ride Control, which varied shock damping by electrically modifying the viscosity of the shocks’ electro-rheological fluid to provide a touring or sport mode. Originally developed for Cadillac, the system offered variable real-time damping for better wheel tracking at high speeds and a smoother ride. Other changes for 2003 included standard fog-lamps, sport seats, power passenger seat, dual zone climate control, a parcel net, and a luggage shade for the coupe.
