A modernized 1992 Crown Victoria debuted in March 1991 with smooth ‘aero’ looks, reworked rear drive chassis, and Ford’s new single overhead cam 4.6 modular V8 with 190 horsepower. There was even a police package that countered Chevrolet’s similar 9c1 option on the Caprice!

In another ’77 “name game”, Ford’s Thunderbird was downsized by becoming what was really a plusher LTD II Coupe. Pries started at $5,063 (down $2727!) and ran to $7900 for the new Town Landau Coupe. Sales rocketed to 318,140. also shared on jalopnik

Ford cruised the youth market for ’77 with a new Cruising option for the Pinto wagon, which had bowed for 73. Colorful graphics and porthole windows in blanked-out side panels were included for $415. Base wagon price $3548; Squire, $3891, total wagon sales: 79,441

For 1977, Ford Mustang II’s cobra II option offered new red/white and black/gold color schemes as well as blue/white. A $607 Sports Performance Package included a 139hp 302 V8, four speed, and heavy-duty chassis. “This is why the cobra takes the corners like a snake”!
