Undoubtedly one of the better ideas to come from the BayerischeMoternWerke, was the installation of a lightweight version of BMW’s inline six in the firms smallest sedans, the 3-series. Called the 325e, the BMW was essentially a 318i with the 101hp 1.8 liter L4 replaced by a mildy reworked version of BMW’s 2.7 liter eta concept L6 powerplant. As in the 528e the 325’s eta motor was a low revving engine with crankshaft speeds kept as low as possible through a computer controlled fuel cut off.
