01984 Ford Bronco II Test Drive
Ford’s new for 1984 Bronco II competed directly with Chevrolet’s compact S-10 Blazer, in a segment that was just emerging in the early 80s. Designed and built to attract a new breed of utility buyers, both Bronco and Blazer were built off of each companies compact pickup, exuding rugged styling and truck like toughness now with four place seating. As everyone will tell you, including Ford in this presentation, styling is subjective, comparing S-10 Blazers looks to its larger big brother stablemate, to the styling of the Bronco II as a fresh design. I personally find the lil’ Bronco quite reminiscent of the original Bronco from the the mid to late sixties, and that is a complement! There were quite the number of differences between these two small SUV’s, from 4×4 system, tailgate design, suspension setup, to the use of simulated wood to emulate luxury in the B2. I have the competitors views on this subject in an upcoming post. We will simply have to wait and see why Chevy found their baby Blazer superior.
