11986 Chrysler Corporation Model Lineup Updates
The Chrysler Corporation was running for its life since it staggered on the precipice of doom in the late 1970s. From that low point, the 1986 new model followed new model in an impressive show of marketing acumen, capturing attention and dollars of consumers. It began with the Aries/Reliant, moved on to the Laser/Daytona, Voyager/Caravan, and the LeBaron GTS/Lancer – quite the impressive list.
With hearty profits under its belt and a new long term lease on life signed and notarized, Chrysler Corporation could stop running for a moment and take a well earned breather. Waiting in the wings were exciting newcomers like the P-car, Chrysler’s answer to the Honda Accord and Chrysler Maserati convertible/coupe, but for the opening of the 1986 model year Mopar fans would have to content themselves with ‘refinements’. Sanding off the rough edges was the order of the day at Chrysler. Until the P-car debuted, there would be no all new sheet metal. Instead, Chrysler was adding such self described “neat touches” as a two piece ignition key, “heater helpers” and the infamous CHMSL.
