01987 Lamborghini LM002 Test Drive
The most exotic and expensive 4×4 available in the 1980s was the Lamborghini LM002. Launched in March 1977 at Geneva as a prototype called the Cheetah, the LM002 was finally put into production in the mid-80s. Powered by a front mounted 450 horsepower V12 engine similar to that used in the Countach, it also shared the Countach 5 speed gearbox. Though weighing 50 percent more than a Range Rover, it could reach 125MPH. Manufactured in Italy at Santa Agata Bolognese, in 1987, sales did not exceed 50 units.
