When Honda made that first critical foray up-market in 1986, it hedged the bet with a pair of talented, affordable hatchbacks. For Japan’s most innovative car company, the two -model strategy proved to be a smart move. Spirited twin-cam Integras offered an attractive entry level for Acura purchases and accounted for nearly half the new marque’s sales. Three years later, a fresh Integra was due, and Honda’s R&D team pledged to improve every aspect of the car that was already a success.
