1990 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo Test Drive

Innovative technology was something never really associated with domestic cars of the 80’s or 90’s, especially the “slow moving behemoth GM”. However with Oldsmobile’s ‘Visual Information Center’, and even it’s inclusion of a Zack Morris phone that could be incorporated with said DIC, some will argue that, including myself! The all new for 1990 Toronado Trofeo was a foot longer than before, albeit most of that new found length added to the front and rear overhangs, adding to more trunk space, and no difference in passenger volume. The new styling was noted as “…concluding, rather than just ending” as on the previous version. To my eyes, in profile, the deck lid was nearly as long as the hood, lending to proportions that were just a bit off , while the presenters remarks counters calling it “full figure…Marilyn Monroe, or Donald Trumps ego”. Design is subjective. Comparing it to a BMW 325i may be a bit pushy, but the Acura Legend i feel appropriate!

I own a 1995 Olds 98 and a 1992 Olds Toronado. The hood and trunk are not the same length. They balanced out the styling because the 1986-1989 looked too small and chopped off. The trunk is bigger and the car is wider than the 1979-1985 Toronado and longer than the 1986-1989. The trunk is bigger than the 1979-1985 as well. I just wanted to share. The front bench seat he spoke about is rare. I have a front bench seat.

I drove a couple of those back in the day. They were big cars, great cruisers, a nice balance of power and handling. They really opened my eyes back then.
