01999 Nissan Z Concept Car
Nissan showed an in-process version of the next Z-car it hoped to launch for the 2003 model year. A company spokesperson in Detroit admitted it was a major challenge to design a modern version of its inexpensive GT that began selling in the states October 1969. Nissan hoped the Z concept would recapture the plucky spirit of the original. Obviously the car introduced in 1999 did not translate much if at all to the production model. But in my eyes, the concept was far more attractive, if anything, because of the retro cues that clearly harkened back to the original Fairlady Z.
