21949 Oldsmobile Commercials
The Olds Ninety-Eight for $2594, a deluxe four-door,retained its ’48′”Futuramic”styling. Output of this model was 49,001. Lansing’s big news for 1949 was the modern “Rocket” V-8. in new Series 88 models, it made Olds a hot performer. Arriving with 303.7 cubic inches, Oldsmobile’s “rocket” pioneered the odernn short-stroke, high compression, overhad-valve V-8 that would soon sweep Detroit. Horsepower for 1949 was a lively 135. The “Rocket’s”go-power figured prominently from the first in ads for the Olds 88, even when the subject was an everyday four door. Olds quickly began setting stock-car racing records. Symbolizing this performance, an 88 soft-top served as the official pace Car for the 1949 Indy 500 Memorial day Race.
had this song stuck in my head all day. also found it pretty neat that they included the service promo. not too often you see that.
I also see what you’re doing with the commercials. i’ll wait for the 1989 one if you keep rolling out gems like these.
I recall the Oldmobile singing commercials from 1949 which began with the launching of the captured German V-2 rocket signifying the Rocket 88 and Rocket 98 which segued into the theme song but I can’t pickup the lyrics off of my computer. I need them for an automobile history class I am taking. Can you help? Thank you.
