1957 Lincoln Premier Tire Test

The 1957 Lincolns were 1956’s with big canted fins and stacked-quad headlights tacked on. Lincoln belatedly added hardtop sedans for 1957, the uplevel Premiere Landau listed for $5294 and attracted 11,223 orders. The Premiere hardtop coupe cost 45149 and sold 15,185 copiers. The new ’57 fins were huge but fairly tasteful. The footage presented appears to be some sort of tire track test to analyse their performance. Since there is no sound, it’s hard to decipher any particulars.

One Response to 1957 Lincoln Premier Tire Test

  1. Lawrence Foster says:

The test was done by Tom McCahill, “Uncle Tom” the car tester for Mechanix Illustrated magazine. Believe the tires were General Dual 90’s. They hired him for tire testing and gave him the choice of any car for the test. Partly because of the Mexican road race history of Lincoln, knowing they were heavy duty automobiles that could live through the test. He was highly complimentary to the Lincoln and the tires. Personally I’ve had Lincoln and Continentals from a 1941 Zephyr convertible, and every year from 1946 through 1966. My favorites were the three ’57 Premieres I had in 1968, a coral convert, and two coupes, a taos and a black one. They were all new condition and the total price paid for all three was $245. Lincoln may not have been road racing them anymore, but I can attest they were still fast, good handling cars. I was 18 at the time.
