01970 Mercury Cylcone GT Test Drive
Like its Ford Torino cousin, the Mercury/Cyclone family was redone for 1970. The mid-size Mercs were 3.7 inches longer and about 100 pounds heavier than their Ford counterparts, and two doors had slightly different roof styling. Convertibles disappeared from Mercury’s intermediate lineup. Despite having just a 250hp two-barrel 351 cid V-8 for standard power, the GT’s sporty looks and bucket seat style made it the most popular member of the Cyclone line with 10,170 produced.
