AMC unveiled the egg like Pacer in February of 1975, with scads of glass and a short nosed ahead of its wide hatchback body. Some loved the look, many did not. Sales failed to approach those of Vega or Pinto, but Pacer was the top selling AMC model. All Pacers were two doors, and many had the $289 DL group. It was originally designed for a Wankel Rotary engine, but instead came with 2 6-cylinder engines. DL trim included in upgraded interior. Pacer X was the ‘sporty’ Edition.
The two door hatch cost $3,299 with a standard 232 six. Sales were 72,158 for the first year.
