Before GM’s mass produced front wheel drive effort the X-car, Oldsmobile was touting the benefits of FWD since 1966. It pulls you through inclement weather, with the drive wheels under the weight of that massive engine! Despite the push (no pun indented) of small efficient import cars with this drive layout, sagging sales in the small car market prompted rebates, allowing the large Olds to proceed relatively unharmed sales wise.
