11977: El Downsized
According to 1977, this is what the 1978 Chevrolet El Camino, and GMC Caballero would look like. According to the magazine, another publication published sketches of the upcoming truck, but we were told to disregard, due to their inaccuracy. “If you’ve seen the magazine in question, forget those sketches”. These were the accurate images. Mmm hmmm.
Whereas the Malibu sedans and wagons would offer a 305 2-bbl V-8 as the largest engine, the El Camino/Caballero would have an optional 350 4-bbl engine with 4-speed transmission fitted as standard equipment. Mmmm hmmm. Accuracy.
Too bad the taillights in the conventional location weren’t accurate, and GM continued the ultra-low-mount bumper taillights from the Colonnade wagons and Elkys to one more generation.
