Ford joined the front-drive club in 1976 with the Fiesta.The Fiesta marked several firsts for the Ford company , their first hatchback and first Spanish-built car. It soon became a European product, with engines made in Britain as well as Spain, transmissions in France, body panels and final assembly in Britain, Germany and Spain. Not only did it compete with the sub-compacts in this test, but also Honda’s 1972 Civic Datsun’s Cherry and the Mitsubishi/Chrysler Colt.
