71977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Commercials
Oldsmobile’s mid-size Cutlass had become one of America’s best-selling lines by 1977, the last year for the 1973 vintage Colonnade styling. By itself, the handsome $4670 Supreme coupe garnered 242,874 sales, the posher $4949 Supreme Brougham another 124,712. A cutlass Supreme was the millionth 1977 Oldsmobile built. Allegedly mid-sized, a Cutlass Supreme coupe now weighted more than a two-door Delta 88, and dearly as much as a Ninety-Eight, more than likely, due to those models being downsized this year. A 110-bhp 260 V8 was standard, with a 170bhp 350 and 185bhp 403 optional.
All these years, and I still have never driven a car with T-Tops! Wonder if there will ever be a T-Top renaissance at some point “down the road?”
T-tops were a blast…for the first few months. Then the process of removing them, securing them in the storage bags in the trunk (to avoid breakage, since it cost over $500 to replace just one). By the one year mark, they would usually start leaking and your interior would smell like mildew 24/7! They would also start rattling as the car aged, as would the rest of the car since part of the roof was missing making it less rigid!
The first car I experienced with t-tops was my sister’s ’85 Nissan 300ZX. They never leaked, but they were such a pain to remove and reinstall, they constantly squeaked and rattled and they turned the interior into an oven on sunny days!
I loved the T-tops on my Datsun. What I didn’t care for were the structural compromises, leaks, and extra wind noise they caused.
I LIKE 1977 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS T-TOP SO SEXY LUXURY CAR AWESOME 😀
Nice Olds! Great company; too bad about their demise. As far as T-tops go, I have an 01′ Camaro SS….love taking the T-tops off on it, just a great alternative to an expensive and heavy convertible!
THAT SAME ONE OF 1976-77 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SJ T-TOP VERY SMOOTH SEXY LUXURY CAR 😀
I grew up with the Cutlass, my mom had three of them over the years including a ’77. It was a Brougham 2-door in Buckskin (tan) with the 350 V8. It was loaded with almost every option, including the power adjustable split bench seat and 8-track stereo! =)
We had it for nine years, until she replaced it with a new ’86 model. She chose the real looker of the line- a Cutlass Salon with 442 Package. It was medium gray and looked awesome with the gold-trimmed chrome rallye wheels and 442 trim package. I wanted her to get one with t-tops, but the dealer only had one in stock. It actually had the very rare optional Astroroof (power moonroof) option which was a $925 option., My mom wasn’t thrilled about the Astroroof, but ordering one with t-tops or with a plain hard top would take up to four months.
