Ford produced a functional show vehicle based on the Ford Fiesta and reminiscent of the Ford Prima show car of 1976. The Fiesta Fantasy was conceived by Ford’s Advanced Vehicles Development group in Dearborn and was based on standard Fiesta parts. The head of the development group, Lewis Veraldi,, said, “By exchanging easy to install modules on the rear section of the vehicle, the Fantasy could be converted from a 2-seat pickup truck into a 2-seat sports coupe, a 2+2 hardtop, 2+2 soft-top convertible or a 4-passenger station wagon.” He also added that while the Fantasy was built as a show car, it did have a number of design features that made it a viable approach for meeting future demands for economical, versatile and fuel-efficient cars.
