The first front-wheel-drive Buick Riviera bowed for 1979 on General Motor’s newly downsized E-body platform. The base model listed for around $10,500. A sporty T-Type with a turbo V-6 sold for almost $11,000. Sales leaped to a bit over 52,000 units.

Truly one of the highlights of the ’80’s at Buick and GM in general. I guess “S type” preceded “T Type” – they never got to “U type” apparently.
