Though the addition of a 4-door to the Mark VI line could have potentially stole some thunder from the Continental series, the luxury sedans had a lot going for them. With the same dimensions as the 4-door Marks, downsized along with Continentals on to the full-size Panther platform, the Continentals were understated, without the fender louvers, trademark grille or spare-tire deck lid configuration of the Mark. Roof-lines and window shapes also delineated the two, though powertrains and general option lists were the same for both car lines, including 302cid EFI and 351cid engines, 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission and electronic equipment.
