Jaguar continued with the slightly revised styling of the Series III XJ6 sedan that debuted for 1980, so there were no changes for 1981. The 12-cylinder was eliminated for the U.S. XJ sedans, but the inline DOHC 4.2-liter inline six engine was upgraded for better fuel economy and performance. Jaguars were rare during this period, with about 5000 Jaguars sold here each year, at prices ranging from $22,000 – $26,000. This 4-door, 5-passenger sports touring sedan offered lots of luxury.
