In 1980, the Phoenix was downsized and moved to front wheel drive, and was available as 2-door coupe or a 5-door hatchback. Lasting only three model years in its previous iteration as a Nova sibling, and living on through 1984 in this iterance, naming it the Phoenix a long lived bird that is continuously regenerated, was a bit foolhardy. Leave it to Pontiac to portray the homely 1981 Phoenix as studio, western photo shot worthy, but that was the angle taken in this 1981 promotional film, which I assume they hoped would never resurface! But that is my job, right?!
Basically the same car as a Chevy Citation, since the Pontiac Phoenix was offered in 5-door hatchback, and 2-door non-hatchback coupe. In 1985, Phoenix was replaced by the new Grand Am.
When ever a car manufacturer needs to add beutiful girls to their advertising, be aware…..
