1983 BMW 320i Test Drive
Bearing the colors for the under-$15,000 sport sedans was the BMW 320i. For the start of 1983, it was carried over intact, including its $13,290 base price. The 1.8-liter OHC hemi four produced 101 hp, and connected to the rear wheels through either the standard 5-speed manual or optional 3-speed automatic. The popular S package option was also on hand for more enthusiastic souls. While the 320i may not be the dominant character it once was, the Teutonic 2-door was nevertheless an acknowledged benchmark.
