1982 Cadillac Seville Test Drive

In 1982, Seville offered heated outside rear-view mirrors with an optional rear defogger. Inside, a “Symphony Sound” stereo cassette tape system was available.
The previously standard diesel engine became an option with the introduction of a new High Tech V-8. The all-new 4.1-liter aluminum V-8 engine option was packaged with a 4-speed overdrive automatic with lockup torque converter as a complete system. The new engine used some unusual casting and assembly techniques for light weight and strength, and would be equipped with Cadillac’s digital fuel injection system pioneered on the 1981 Seville 368cid V-8 engine, the 4.1 engine/transmission combination would be badged on each car using it as the HT4100, Cadillac’s interpretation of high-tech 4.1.
This engine had a number of reliability issues, such as weak, porous aluminum block castings and failure-prone intake manifold gaskets.
