1982 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta Test Drive

The Berlinetta was still Camaro’s grand-touring car, with the same previous virtues of luxury and silence.  But it now listed some extra touches that weren’t available in the past.

When you ordered model 1FS87 Berlinetta, the 2.8-liter, 2-barrel V-6 engine came standard, as did the 4-speed manual.  There was no more 3-speed available for any third-generation Camaro.

Also standard in the Berlinetta, was the Custom interior, which used up-level upholstery and special trim on the seats and door panels.  Another item of standard equipment wasa the so-called Quiet Sound Group, which used additional body insulation under the Custom interior’s heavier carpets, and extra padding up against the firewall.  The Berlinetta further received a 6mm molded headliner instead of the 3mm foam thickness in the non-custom interior.

Too, a lockable, hinged cargo floor extension that covered the rear storage well was part of the Berlinetta’s custom interior, coupled with a lockable rear side stowage compartment and carpeting on the load-deck sidewall area, over the wheelhouses. The Berlinetta got the same right-hand visor vanity mirror, outside mirrors, and fully instrumented gauge cluster as the Z-28, including the tach and console mounted quartz rally clock.
