Supplementing the rear-drive Chevette in Chevrolet’s 1982 lineup was the new front-drive Cavalier, a slightly larger subcompact offering these four body styles and additional four-cylinder power for as little as $6278. It was just one of the “J-cars” appearing at all five GM divisions that year.
