The All American pick was back. Ford, Chrysler, Chevrolet and GMC all introduced new trucks for 1982, downsized to beat the Japanese minis, and these trucks were good. The Chevrolet S-10 was a masterful blend of GM style, comfort ad all American utility, a Malibu with a pickup bed if you will, same compliant ride same power assisted controls same V6 performance, same comfy interior decked out with every imaginable convenience. At the same time it was a real truck, with double wall bed, 3/4 ton load rating, and optional 7.5 foot box. GM’s excellent 2.8 liter V6 and four speed was a real standout in the class, emulating the quickness of medium size sporty cars from the period.
