Thanks to revisions made to the independent rear suspension, the 1982 Turbo’s tendency to yaw during spirited cornering was effectively eliminated, versus the 1981 version of Datsun’s popular sports car. The same suspension changes firmed up the ride noticeably, yet the ZX still squatted excessively under hard acceleration. An additional transmission, a Borg Warner T-5 5-speed overdrive manual was available for the 1982 model year. Outside, the Turbo ZX wore body colored urethane bumpers with black rub strips that lined up with the body side moldings. The interior was spruced up with better quality carpeting and spiffier upholstery. Although the most expensive car sold by Datsun on our shores, the 280ZX Turbo did afford the enthusiast a level of performance unequalled at even twice its entry fee.
