They had to can the Ranger trim since the Ranger compact pickup came along that year. I always thought it was kind of odd how Ford made such a distinction between 4x4s and 4x2s with two different brochures – and here the 4wd gets its own training film distinct from the 4×2.
My grandfather had a 1986 F150 4×4, 4-speed manual, dark gray exterior. Then, he had the 1989 F150, similar exterior colors, same transaxle, and also a 4×4.
