In 1981, some people were disappointed when the Lynx was released only as two-doors and four-door wagons. For 1982 Mercury added the five-door hatchback. But that was not all. The front suspensions were stiffened appreciably to improve handling, and the changes seemed to work.
Marketed with slightly better trim and higher prices than the Ford Escort, the 1982 Lynx models weren’t much changed from the debut 1981’s besides the aforementioned added doors. Lynx sales remained strong at over 119,000.
