1982 Volkswagen Quantum Wagon Test Drive

For 1982 VW released what it termed its flagship for at least the rest of the decade. The car’s name, Quantum, may slightly overstated its leap beyond the Dasher it replaced, though it was definitely an up-market car as well as the most luxurious Volkswagen ever constructed.
A wheelbase increase of some 3 inches compared to the Dasher made the Quantum a significantly larger and more spacious car. It came in 3-door hatchback, 4-door sedan, adn 5-door wagon body styles, and used the 17-liter engine mounted longitudinally, as did the Dasher. The Quantum overlapped a bit into the Audi market (it was sized like a 4000, though they shared no major parts), and Volkswagen insiders named the Cadillac Cimarron as a direct competitor.
