21983 Ford LTD Manufacturer Promo
All new for 1983, smaller, lighter, more streamlined (0.38 drag coefficient), 5-passenger sedans and station wagons. Single series, with 2.3 four, 3.3 inline six, and 3.8 V-6 engines, modified for propane fuel was also available. Suspension and steering were very similar to Thunderbird. Totally new interior design, with Electronic instruments cluster and diagnostic warning lights, semi-bucket front seats with console and armrest, luxury interior group, flip up roof panel, were new options, along with a larger fuel tank.
While the front-drive Celebrity was being phased in, the rear-drive Malibu was being phased out. 1983 would be the last year for the mid-size Malibu. GM’s other G-body sedans (and wagons) would also be dropped over the next few years. GM’s front-drive “A” cars were well on their way to popularity. Meanwhile, Ford’s LTD would remain until 1985, before it was replaced by the new front-drive Taurus. Same with Mercury.
