1984 Buick Century Station Wagon Test Drive

A station wagon was the kind of vehicle that just didn’t seem right unless there was pandemonium in the back seat and ice cream dripping down the back of your neck. Let’s face it, despite all the pretenses and uptown names like Estate Wagon and Town and Country, a wagon was your basic mode of transport for people with too many kids, too many bags of fertilizer, and too many shopping bags to carry. The only reason you bought a wagon was because you really needed it.
And the GM wagons, based on the existing font-drive A-car platform, were no exception. In fact, due to the front-drive nature of the A-cars, the wagon versions made more sense than the traditional rear-drive wagons. The lack of a rear differential allowed for a flat, low cargo bed. There was even enough room back there for the installation of a fold-out jump seat built for two. Just like the old days. In many respects, the new A-wagon was just like the wagons we took on summer vacation as kids. Except this time the package was a lot more fuel efficient and much more interesting to drive.
